Adwords Adsense – Google Advertising Patents for Behavioral Targeting, Personalization and Profiling

Adwords Adsense – Google Advertising Patents for Behavioral Targeting, Personalization and Profiling

Friday, October 21 2005 at 10:46

Google filed two patents this week dealing with ad targeting based on user search history behavior and personalization in what seems an attempt to enter the post-search behavioral advertising market that Yahoo is already offering to its advertisers and will be available in MSN’s AdCenter. The patents also follow a line of filings, including the Google filing of a creative and landing page optimization patent filing in September.

The first Google patent filing discussed is “Determining ad targeting information and/or ad creative information using past search queries” which was authored mainly by Sumit Agarwal. The patent abstract describes this patent as follows : Ad information, such as ad targeting keywords and/or ad creative content for example, may be determined using aggregated selected document-to-query information associations. For example, popular terms and/or phrases also associated with a selected document may be used as ad targeting keywords and/or ad creative content for an ad having the document as a landing page. Query information may be tracked on a per document level, a per domain level, etc. The determined ad information may be used to automatically populate an ad record, or may be provided to an advertiser as suggested or recommended ad information.

Adsense Alternative – With Pay-Per-Click Ads, Quigo Gains on Google

Adsense Alternative – With Pay-Per-Click Ads, Quigo Gains on Google

Friday, October 21 2005 at 10:55

Contextual advertising, those short, text-based links that appear next to a Web site’s content, is one of the hottest areas on the Web, thanks in large part to the success of Google’s AdSense network. But now that pay-per-click advertising has grown into a $3.1 billion business, according to the latest figures by Jupiter Research, Google is facing a growing host of competitors.

One Google competitor, New York-based Quigo, has had particular success in the newspaper sector, thanks in large part to a business model that allows local publishers to keep their existing advertiser relationships in-house.

Adwords Adsense – Google Optimizing Ad Sales, Creatives and Landing Pages

Adwords Adsense – Google Optimizing Ad Sales, Creatives and Landing Pages

Friday, October 21 2005 at 11:02

Google is taking steps with its AdWords and AdSense programs to assist advertisers in launching site targeted campaigns, help publishers sell those advertising spaces, and even optimize the advertising creatives and landing pages for the advertiser. This direction will be intended to smooth out the online ad buying and selling process while attempting to get the best return on investment for both the business advertising on Google AdWords, and the publisher selling ad space via Google AdSense.

Top Paying Adsense Keyword – Google Spammers

Top Paying Adsense Keyword – Google Spammers

Friday, October 21 2005 at 11:13

“Spam is like the aliens among us. They look like us, dress like us – but they also eat the houseplants.” — John Holbo

This post may end up on spam blogs. Let me explain why.

In my recent interview with Joe Harris, a keyword blogger, several “high paying” keywords got mentioned (like mortgage, gambling, poker, or mesothelioma). There was an unexpected side-effect to this post, as it was also featured in Google News; many spam bloggers, I suspect, subscribe to Google Alerts for their spam keywords. They then fill their (mostly Blogspot-hosted) plogs with posts sent to them via Google. The final irony is that they’re often using Google AdSense to make this a commercial venture. In other words: someone’s abusing Google to get traffic, on a blog hosted by Google, filled with content automated by Google, and they’re making money from it via Google.

Find out at http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2005-09-28-n50.html how the top paying adsense keyword becomes sound reason for setting up a blog.

Adsense Money – Make Easy Money with Google Starting with Content

Adsense Money – Make Easy Money with Google Starting with Content

Friday, October 21 2005 at 11:23

Determine what your Web site’s going to be about before you start building it to ensure you create compelling, AdSense-friendly content. Author Eric Giguere offers up tips on finding the topic for your site that’s most likely to do well and make money in Google’s popular AdSense program.

Eric: Today, we’re going to decide what your sites are going to be about.

Anita: Aren’t we doing this backwards? Shouldn’t we learn how to build a Web site first and then decide what our topic should be?

Eric: You could do it that way, but having a firm idea of what the site’s going to be about makes the concepts easier to grasp. Besides, I’m sure you’d rather know sooner than later how much money you can make from a given topic.

Adwords Adsense – Google Tests ‘Advertise’ Link, Landing Page

Adwords Adsense – Google Tests ‘Advertise’ Link, Landing Page

Friday, October 21 2005 at 11:37

Google is testing a link and landing page combination that lets advertisers click to buy ads on individual AdSense publishers’ sites.

The “Advertise on this site” link, which appears above the AdWords ads on “select” publisher sites, takes potential advertisers to a Google-hosted landing page customized for the publisher. The page gives a description of that particular site and explains how to buy an AdWords site-targeted ad that appears on its pages. Links from the page lead to Google’s AdWords sign-up pages and its FAQ. Site-targeted ads are offered on a CPM basis only.

Adsense Alternative – Chitika eMiniMalls and Google AdSense

Adsense Alternative – Chitika eMiniMalls and Google AdSense

Friday, October 21 2005 at 12:11

Over the next couple of days the Search Engine Journal will be running a 50/50 split of eMiniMall advertisements and Google AdSense in our main content ad spot, shown to the right of this post (if you don’t see them, just try reloading the page a couple of times). Chitika eMiniMalls have taken the blogging and publishing world by storm ever since Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net announced that he was pulling in over $700 a day in limited testing of the ads.

Chitika eMiniMalls are interactive, shopping oriented advertisements which feature anything from digital cameras to cell phones or laptops. I’ve even seen a couple of lingerie oriented sites where the Chitika ads serve pictures of red lace panties – enough to tickle the fancy of almost any web surfer.

Adsense Tip – Web Ad Layout and Placement Strategies for Maximum Clickthroughs

Adsense Tip – Web Ad Layout and Placement Strategies for Maximum Clickthroughs

Friday, October 21 2005 at 12:30

You’ve optimized your keywords — what else can you do to ensure people are clicking the ads on your page (and making you money each time they do)? There are no absolute rules about placing advertisements and which layout options to choose, but Eric Giguere has some general guidelines to follow to maximize your site’s potential.

Keyword optimization ensures that the right advertisements are shown on your pages, but even well-targeted ads won’t make you any money if no one clicks on them. After all, the fundamental premise behind pay-per-click advertising systems like AdSense for content is this: You get paid only when ads are clicked on. Ad layout and placement are therefore extremely important to your earnings as an AdSense publisher. Although there are no absolute rules about how to place advertisements and which layout options to choose, there are some general guidelines to follow—and that’s what we’re going to discuss.

Adsense – AOL: becoming a pawn in Microsoft-Google fight

Adsense – AOL: becoming a pawn in Microsoft-Google fight

Friday, October 21 2005 at 12:41

Microsoft and Comcast are reportedly interested in starting a joint venture with AOL.

Word on the street is that Google and Microsoft both want a piece of America Online. This suggests that the online services pioneer, which has had a rough few years since it was swallowed up by Time Warner at the start of the decade, could become a pawn in the emerging battle between Google and Microsoft.

According to unconfirmed reports, Google and Comcast have teamed up to make an offer to start a joint venture with AOL that would see the three companies jointly control AOL’s Web services.

Google Adsense – Has Google Peaked?

Google Adsense – Has Google Peaked?

Friday, October 21 2005 at 12:54

Potential obstacles for the world’s hottest tech company.

When I think of Google, I think of the arch-villain Mr. Big from the James Bond film Live and Let Die. His diabolical plan: Flood the streets with free heroin to drive out competing suppliers and dealers. Once users got hooked on his free smack, Mr. Big could leverage control over the entire market.

This is, in essence, Google’s business model. Of course, instead of heroin it traffics in free software and Web sites. It’s unlikely Google will start charging for them anytime soon—rather, it will continue to deploy services as a vehicle for targeting ads. But, like Mr. Big, Google depends on the broad acceptance of its products. Without massive numbers of users, the company wouldn’t have the customer base to attract billions of dollars in advertising revenue.

Find out if Google peaked or not and what’s the role of Adsense in all of this at http://slate.msn.com/id/2127758/.
