NEW – AdSense Custom Search Ads

Google has introduced a new Adsense ad format aimed at sites that are search oriented.  If you run a website that provides search information for industries like travel, jobs or specific products, this new ad format is geared to you.

Adsense Custom Search Ads are targeted ads based upon the keywords that are used to search on your site.  Basically, when the user enters keywords into a search box on your website, the Custom Search Ads will use those keywords to display more relevant ads to the user, in addition to your search results from your own database of content.

The goal of Adsense Custom Search Ads is to display highly relevant ads to the user.  Obviously, using the keywords that a user is searching for will enable Google to do this.  This is a new ad format, so results have not been determined yet, but it’s highly likely that with a more targeted ad, the more clicks the users will make resulting in a higher result of Google Adsense income.  Along with the new ad type, you can customize the look of these ads so that they will blend in well with your website.  Ads can be set to a custom width along with the number of ads to display, ad layout, font size, font face and many other settings.

Two sites have implemented the new Customer Search Ads, LemonFree.com and eCrater.com.  Within the Custom Search Ads, two new ad formats have been released to try out: Ad Sitelinks and Seller Ratings.

Above is an image from LemonFree.com and you will notice that I did a search for Toyota Corolla’s on the left from within LemonFree’s search form.  You’ll notice that in the two locations that contain Google Adsense, that all of the ads target Toyota Corolla’s making it much more likely for me (or the user) to find the ad relevant and valuable and for me to click on it.

Ad Sitelinks Ad Extension

Similar to the Sitelinks display in Google’s search results, Ad Sitelinks allows you to include up to 4 deeper links to a site alongside the main ad landing page.  This allows you to provide extended value to your users by displaying additional targeted and relevant links to the users search queries that have triggered the ad.

Seller Ratings Ad Extension

Seller ratings provides the user submitted ratings from Google and displays that rating along side the Ad’s company.  This provides more information to your users about the past experiences with the business.  These reviews and ratings will help your visitors determine if the Ad’s owner is worthy of their business.  The reviews and ratings are tied to the domain of the Display URL from the Adsense Ad.

Currently the Custom Search Ads is only opened to a limited number of publishers, so if you are interested, sign up immediately.
